Usher’s career serves as a great case study for what it means to evolve or evaporate. You can’t be so bold and reluctant to be receptive to change that you don’t allow yourself to grow.” “You have to be very cognizant of what’s going on around you. Evolve or evaporate,” Usher told Spin in a 2012 interview. “I remember walking in the studio and Usher had a huge sign put up that read, ‘Evolve or Evaporate,'” Medor recalls. When it was time to work on the album, Usher was adamant about giving himself the space to explore new sounds and ideas freely. “You could hear how he was stretching himself to try different styles but managed to make sure his identity was still housed within that environment,” says Medor, who engineered the session for “Without You” and co-wrote “Promise” along with Rico Love. 1 hit on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart. That year, he also joined bachata singer Romeo Santos on “ Promise,” securing a No. In 2011, he teamed with EDM DJ David Guetta on the pulsating banger “Without You,” which went to No. It was apparent that Usher was expanding his lane in music, and his success showed that the masses were receptive to him occupying different spaces in music. 4 on the same chart, “ Somebody to Love (Remix)” with his mentee Justin Bieber and the bonus track “ More.” He also collaborated with Ciara on the electropop bop “ Turn It Up,” produced by T-Minus and Tricky Stewart. His album Raymond v Raymond (2010) featured dance-pop/R&B tracks, including the Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper “ OMG,” “DJ Got Us Fallin In Love,” which peaked at No. Years prior, he dabbled with it on songs such as his 2004 smash “Yeah!” and “Red Light,” both lifted from his Confessions album, as well as 2008’s “Love In This Club” from Here I Stand. More on that later.)īy 2010, Usher was gravitating more towards electronic dance-influenced music. (Medor, who’s also part of Tha Cornaboyz, worked on a production team led by Rico Love for Looking 4 Myself. He was kind of diving into what they were doing sonically,” producer Pierre Medor tells Rated R&B. Recording artist Usher watches Empire of the Sun on day 2 of the 2011 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival at The Empire Polo Club on April 16, 2011, in Indio, California. It was like we were meant to meet at that time.” Empire of the Sun’s Coachella set sparked inspiration for Usher’s next album at the time, Looking 4 Myself. It’s amazing when that happens - the synergy of time when people meet. “That was a cool meeting,” Steele recalls to Rated R&B. Something unique about Empire of the Sun’s performance intrigued Usher.Īfter their performance, Usher went backstage to greet the duo. Rocking a light pink t-shirt and black pants, Usher was spotted at the fore of the crowd watching the band’s set as they performed material from their debut album, Walking On a Dream. Australian electronic duo Empire of the Sun, consisting of vocalist Luke Steele and producer Nick Littlemore, performed at the festival that night. It was ten days before the start of the North American leg of his OMG Tour in support of his sixth album, Raymond v. On April 16, 2011, Usher attended day two of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California.

The Lazarus tale demonstrates that God’s grace goes far beyond our expectations, and that it can restore even beyond our scope. The lyrics of the spiritual are important here: “He may not come when you want him, but he’s right on time.” So whatever errors we commit, whatever difficulties we face, we cannot assume that we are beyond divine assistance. Lazarus was dead and his sisters had faith that Jesus could heal him, but that was the limit of their faith. Jesus calling Lazarus forth demonstrates the faith that God can act even when it is too late. Jesus actually cries when he meets with the sisters, affirming their grief and his at the loss of Lazarus and affirming their reprimand that this would not have happened if he got there sooner. Martha and Mary accept that they will be together with their brother at the end of their lives, but Jesus reminds him that he IS the Resurrection. This story to me is really about faith, a faith that can correct any sort of error. Jesus knew Lazarus was dying and Martha and Mary had faith that Jesus could save him while he was still alive. Henry Ossawa Tanner, Resurrection of Lazarus, 1896, Public Domain. Jesus actually cries for Lazarus showing a measure of grief that is not present elsewhere in the Gospels. He then orders the stone to be rolled away and calls his friend from his tomb. The Tanner painting depicts the moment when Lazarus is quickening as the command of his friend. He is addressed by Mary and Martha, who tell him clearly, and with a slight amount of reprimand, that had he come earlier their brother would not have died. Jesus knew that his beloved Lazarus was dying and arrived at Bethany too late to save him. He does this purposefully. Many people focus on Jesus’s act of raising Lazarus from the dead (he had been entombed for four days) as a pre-figuring of his own resurrection. It is that, no question. But there are other elements of the story that I think are often overlooked. It bears an investigation of the story of Lazarus to get a sense of what I am talking about here. The tale is found in the Gospel of John. This faith sustains painting as a practice, but recently there has been a kind of representation of the body, the “undead” body in painting that I think has a lot to do with the history of painting, but an attempt to re-inscribe the art in general and body specifically as a site of political agency. I want to avoid the obvious discussion of painting being dead. It’s not. Rather, painting has been killed several times and has been brought back to life by a certain kind of belief, or faith in it. With that being said, what was the story, was it any good, and are we missing out since we’re now unable to revisit it? Let’s take a look back…way back… The story has been shelved for good following the shutdown of the NBA 2K20 servers, since M圜AREER is no longer playable. Indeed, Carter, LeBron, and their production company, Springhill Entertainment, are credited on the cover as executive producers for M圜AREER. To that end, Visual Concepts collaborated with Maverick Carter and LeBron James on the story for NBA 2K20’s M圜AREER, “When The Lights Are Brightest”. It wasn’t perfect, but it stood out as one of the better M圜AREER stories, and a tough act to follow. “ The Way Back” not only boasted impressive production values from a cinematic standpoint, but also attempted to spice up the journey with mini-games and other interactive elements. This week, I’m taking a look back at the M圜AREER story in NBA 2K20, titled “When The Lights Are Brightest”.įollowing NBA 2K18’s ridiculous M圜AREER tale starring a prospect who quit basketball to be a DJ, finally makes it to the NBA following a streetball tournament, and is flanked by his annoying best friend/roommate B-Fresh, NBA 2K19 featured a much better written story. However, the game does have a lot of microtransactions that may annoy, especially players who have experienced NBA 2K before. This is Wayback Wednesday, your midweek blast from the past! From retrospectives of basketball games and their interesting features, to republished articles and looking at NBA history through the lens of the virtual hardwood, Wednesdays at the NLSC are for going back in time. As a one-time purchase, NBA 2K20 doesn't break the bank. NBA 2K20 is a paid game, so you may wonder whether or not the game is worth the purchase. At times you may notice a few animation issues, but they are easy to overlook. Transitions, dribbles, and movements are very smooth and remind you of the real league. The entire game is very lifelike and features convincing gameplay. What can users expect from NBA 2K20?Īs compared to other games in the series, NBA 2K20 offers a lot of depth. To make your basketball journey easier, NBA 2K20 also offers tutorials and different game modes. However, once you get the hang of it, you can easily move up the roster without much trouble. This also means that the game has a learning curve for beginners. The gameplay is more immersive and intuitive. The latest version of the NBA basketball video game an interactive software. The simulation game also offers various customization options, along with several songs that make the overall gaming experience all the more fascinating. In addition to this, character and basketball animations are as realistic as real-life NBA games. M圜areer scenes, players (their hairstyles, tattoos, and clothes), and the neighborhood location are delivered in style and are visually appealing. NBA 2K20 features the best graphics when compared with its older version. As you dribble, size up, and shoot, you’re able to experience what it’s like to truly be an NBA champion. While the storyline takes a while to unfold, it sets the gameplay to be nerve-wracking and fun, just like the real-life NBA games. The backstory and cut-scenes are put together with performances from famous NBA stars and a few big Hollywood names like Idris Elba, Rosario Dawson, Mark Cubin, Scottie Pippen, and Ernie Hudson. While most people would want to take advantage of Che’s talents, only a few will push him forward without expecting anything in return. You will start the game as Che, a college senior who loves to play basketball. NBA 2K20 for Windows isn’t like other NBA games because it has a compelling storyline with a perfect balance of gameplay and cut-scenes. What’s new in this game is the storyline called ‘When the Lights Are Brightest.’ With realistic graphics and a catchy soundtrack, the game introduces you to many memorable characters and gives you a chance to bask in glory after defeating your online friends. Since the game is updated annually, it doesn’t feature too many drastic changes. The paid basketball game also features several modes, songs, and challenges, along with an engaging storyline that’ll keep you returning. It features larger-than-life players, exciting animations and sounds, realistic gameplay, and comprehensive shooting controls. The NBA is one of the most-watched leagues in the world, and similarly, NBA 2K20 is one of the most popular basketball simulation games available. The virtual equivalent of the NMA basketball league! The International Committee on Allergic Diseases in Animals puts out guidelines for managing atopic dermatitis, and they divide itch into acute flare ups and more chronic daily levels of itching. They found little benefit from antihistamines for acute flare ups except for mild cases and consider that the drowsiness side effect may be responsible for any reduction in scratching. Histamine is not the major mediator of inflammation in dogs, thus these medications are not as reliable for dogs as they are for us. Histamine, a biological chemical, is the chief mediator of inflammation in humans, hence the proliferation of antihistamines available for people both by prescription and over the counter. This product is excellent at extending the interval between skin infection flare ups. It only provides symptomatic relief, but for many itchy dogs, stopping the itch/scratch cycle is needed to curtail the vicious cycle and stop the perpetuation of skin infections. Lokivetmab does not affect pre-existing infections other than to make them not be itchy. That said, it does not work for every dog, and while some dogs experience more than 4 weeks of relief, others experience less. For over 80% of dogs receiving the injection, results are sustained for at least 4 weeks. Lokivetmab (Cytopoint®, Canine Atopic Dermatitis Immunotherapeutic, Cadi)Ī relatively new product is lokivetmab, a monoclonal antibody genetically engineered to target the canine version of a biochemical called interleukin 31. Interleukin 31 is a type of cytokine and is an important mediator of itching so when it is inactivated by antibodies, relief from itch is rapidly achieved (usually beginning 8 hours after injection and readily apparent after 1 day). Ideally, additional treatments are used between infection flare ups to extend the time between them. Some itchy pets need continuous management for these infections while, as mentioned, others only need periodic treatment. Expect an itchy animal to have some skin samples reviewed under the microscope to check for infection. Antibiotics generally handle these infections, though sometimes culture is necessary to determine what antibiotic is needed. When the environment of the skin changes (allergic skin loses water and may have more oils), these organisms multiply and can gain access to deeper layers of the skin through abrasions caused by scratching and chewing. The usual infections involve the Staphylococci bacteria and/or the Malassezia fungi that normally live on the skin surface. In many cases, controlling the infection will bring the pet back into its comfort zone and many allergic animals are managed by simply having their infections treated when they flare up. While this is possible, most of the time what has actually happened is an infection has taken root in the skin as a result of scratching and chewing. When an animal becomes suddenly itchier, we tend to assume there must have been a new or sudden allergen exposure. Staphylococcus bacteria is the main target of cefpodoxime. The following list includes assorted non-steroidal methods for relieving itch and reducing the amount of corticosteroid hormones needed. When your pet is scratching and chewing raw spots on his skin, practical advice is what is called for. Of course, this is easier to write about than to actually do. Ideally, corticosteroids are used for a few really tough itch weeks and other forms of itch management are used for general itch maintenance. Unfortunately, these hormones have widespread and potentially dangerous actions throughout the body when they are used for inappropriately long periods and it is generally desirable to minimize the use of these hormones when possible to do so. There are some animals that seem unable to live with any degree of comfort without these medications. For reliable rapid relief of itch and inflammation, it is hard to match the corticosteroid hormones such as hydrocortisone, triamcinolone, methylprednisolone, prednisone, dexamethasone, and others. LCD projectors tend to be sharper, more efficient and more color accurate, but have lower contrast ratios and can experience image degradation over time. Those then pass through LCD displays containing the image and converge via another prism before passing through the projector’s lens.Įpson is the primary user of LCD tech, along with Sony, Sanyo and others. LCD tech, meanwhile, uses a prism to split a light source into red, green and blue beams. The biggest drawback is the rainbow effect, or bright red/blue/green artifacts that affect some viewers more than others. The benefits of the tech are portability, high contrast, less fringing and cheaper projectors, especially 4K and ultra-short-throw models. Both use mirrors that tilt by +12 and -12 degrees for white and black, but TI recently unveiled a new 0.47-inch 4K-capable DMD with +/-17 degrees of tilt, which should enhance both brightness and contrast.ĭLP projector makers include LG, Optoma, LG, BenQ and Panasonic. Those tilt either toward the light source (on) or away from it (off) at up to 5,000 times per second.īudget projectors like BenQ’s HT3550i use TI’s 0.47-inch DMD, while higher end models, like the Samsung Premium LSP9T use the 0.66-inch chip. The heart of the tech is an optical semiconductor called a digital micromirror device (DMD) that contains millions of aluminum mirrors. Most projector manufacturers now use DLPs, or digital light processing units, manufactured nearly exclusively by Texas Instruments (TI). That’s essentially a lifetime of use (about 10 years). Lasers are a far better solution than lamps, because they’re brighter and last far longer - up to 30,000 hours instead of 6,000. The rise of ultra-short-throw projectors and brighter long-throw models, meanwhile, has been powered by falling prices in laser illumination technology. They’re fundamentally different systems, with their own advantages and drawbacks. Here are the basics: Projectors generally use two types of technology, LCD and DLP. This buying guide will help you with everything you need to understand before purchasing the best projector for your needs within your budget.īest ultra-short-throw projectors under $3,500īest ultra-short-throw projectors under $7,000īest budget portable projectors The t echnology There are also a lot of terms to understand, like lens shift, LCD vs. There are a lot of different types of projectors, though, ranging from ultra-short-throw to portable to long-throw. That’s around the same price and over double the size of a decent 65-inch TV, giving you something close to true movie theater immersion with a home theater projector. Better still, you can now get 4K HDR models that can project an image size up to 150-inches for as little as $1,000. Both enhanced and true 4K projectors show excellent, fantastically detailed images, and the difference is still visible when projected onto the cinema screen.ĤK is superior in terms of quality, details, sharpness and all other aspects you look for in creating your home cinema experience, and nowadays it doesn’t have to be an expensive investment, as 4K projectors are increasingly more affordable.Over the last year, we’ve seen models bright enough to use in a normal room, short-throw models that take up very little space and have built-in sound bars, and better picture quality than ever with 4K and Dolby Vision features. Enhanced 4K mainly refers to a more limited and slower version of pixel shifting technology, which mostly shows 2K resolution, or 4.1 megapixels, but fired twice to seemingly show 8.3 megapixels on the screen. This delivers a 3840 x 2160 resolution with 8.3 million distinct pixels for each frame, four times higher than full HD 1080p. True 4K is 8.3 megapixels, and is considered as showing true 4K resolution by using a DLP 4K UHD chipset with advanced image processing, ensuring incredibly fast pixel switching speed. Both of these play 4K content, but there is a difference. There are mainly two kinds of 4K projectors: true 4K projectors and enhanced 4K projectors.
